The Organisers

The United Muslims’ Convention (UMC) is the brain child of a West Midlands based dawah organisation, Al Hikma, inspired by the Prophetic legacy and the wisdom of a number of Muslim activists and scholars from diverse backgrounds spanning the globe.

Al Hikma, meaning Wisdom, was born from the work and aspirations of a number of daees involved in Islamic Societies (ISOCs) and community outreach dawah projects. This was conducted with the guidance / support from a range of diverse ullema and daees. The activities of the organisation are delivered with the involvement and consultation of scholars / students of knowledge. This guidance acts as an anchor of support ensuring that the public can confidently place their trust in the organisation and that the dawah work remains within the broad boundaries of Islam.

Al Hikma Media from its onset has remained a non-profit organisation in which our volunteers work feesabilillah (for the sake of Allah) in the attempt to fulfil their obligation of promoting Islam and to attain the pleasure of Allah (swt). All of our members are either students or have professional jobs and do not take any salary from Al Hikma ensuring every penny is spent in delivering the message. This practice ensures that the volunteer’s sole intention of their dawah work is for the deen and not for any financial benefit.

Islamic traditional policy

Alhamdulillah, Al Hikma Media enacts the Islamic traditional policy of not charging the public entrance fees to Islamic dawah events.

Al Hikma wants to encourage all people to attend and benefit from the dawah events. By adopting a “free entrance” policy Al Hikma has aided in removing the financial barrier of “entrance fees” that may deter some people (especially students) wanting to learn or be inspired by Islam but not have the financial means to do so. To date, all of our conventions, speeches and debates have had a free entrance policy. This policy makes the dawah work very difficult as high costs are incurred. The continuation of this approach can only be maintained by your generous donations, sponsorships and most importantly - duas.

The purpose of Al Hikma is to act as a vehicle to serve the Deen (way of life) of Islam. Al Hikma aims to be in the servitude of the Muslim community by making available a range of services to help individuals and the community build their relationship with the Creator and the rest of humankind in accordance to Islam. This is executed via a range of services used to promote Islam and Islamic values both to Muslims and non-Muslims.

neutral organisation

Al Hikma strives to remain a neutral organisation without any divisional group affiliation in its attempt to unite Muslims from diverse backgrounds.

The concept of unity promoted is not that Muslims should leave their rich diverse Islamic backgrounds, heritage, practices or groups and adopt a single methodology. Disparity amongst Muslims in understanding and practises has always existed in Islam right from the time of the early generations till now. However, these variances did not manifest into hatred for fellow Muslims and despite the differences the Muslims remained united on the common good. The call to unity that Al Hikma encourages is for Muslims regardless of their group affiliation to work together on the common good – that any hatred turns into love – that ignorance converts to an understanding and that the love and brotherhood of the Prophetic era returns into the hearts of Muslims today.

Incorporated within the range of services that Al Hikma executes in the promotion of Islam is aiding other Islamic organisations in the delivery of their events. Much of Al Hikma’s work does not necessarily bare Al Hikma’s name. The concern is in delivering the work needed for the deen at the grass root and strategic levels regardless of what banner it is executed under. The call is not necessarily to the organisation; rather the call is to Islam, regardless of which organisation is serving it.

Conventions and conferences are just a small part of Al Hikma Media’s work. Throughout the year, Al Hikma members keep themselves involved in educational, Da’wah (outreach) and social service oriented activities. Al Hikma arranges speaker tours, dialogues, TV programmes, production of exhibition materials and much more. However, demand for our services far exceeds our ability to deliver as all our volunteers have full time work commitments and families to maintain. Therefore we apologise for any shortcomings on our behalf. Perfection belongs to Allah alone.

“The Believers are but a single Brotherhood: So make peace and reconciliation between your two (contending) brothers; and fear Allah, that ye may receive Mercy.” (Quran 49:10)
